Living Room / Days Like This

That blessed time is nearly upon us, festival season is in sight and the Novel team have got quite the spring/summer listing in store for us. Let’s take a look…

First up, Living Room Festival.

A collab between Novel and Happen, Living Room fest returns to Melbourne on November 9th, this time taking over the Timber Yard in Port Melbourne. The site will undergo the customary Living Room treatment with armchairs, sofas and all manner of soft furnishings transforming the expansive area into a space IKEA would be proud of.

But don’t get too comfortable, as sitting is unlikely to be on the agenda…

The line-up is pretty damn impressive, featuring a mix of European and home-grown talent bringing a medley of house, disco, soul, funk and techno.

Headliner Motor City Drum Ensemble (MCDE) will make his Victorian debut, in very good company alongside fellow German producer, Acid Pauli.

MCDE has graced stages the world over, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome his soul-inspired sound to the Living Room. His diverse musical background has culminated in a dynamic and distinctive sound, with flavours of Jazz, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop and House influencing his sets.

Industry veteran, George Evelyn AKA Nightmares on Wax is flying in from Blighty to inject his iconic funk-flavoured dance grooves into proceedings. Described as ‘some of the finest electronic music ever fashioned for the couch and not the club’, George is a prime candidate for the Living Room’s laid-back vibe & despite the fact he’s been kicking about since the 80’s, he’s showing no signs of slowing.

Representing the local talent is Australia’s very own Late Nite Tuff Guy. Arguably one of Australia’s finest exports, LNTG has truly earned his techno stripes having played some of the most iconic events in the world. His recent overseas stint saw a string of incredible performances, not least his Prince tribute at Glastonbury.

Rounding off the line-up are Jeremy Underground, DJ JNETT, Otologic, Pjenné and Toni Yotzi.

With only a couple of weeks to go, be sure to blag yourself one of the final few tickets.

For the forward planners among us, the fourth instalment of Days Like This will be returning to Sydney’s Victoria Park Labour day weekend (5 months out and a long weekend, what’s your excuse?)

The listing is littered with techno, house and disco legends from the world-over, including The Black Madonna, Maceo Plex, Richie Hawtin and Nina Kraviz.

Headliner Maceo Plex is set to receive a very warm welcome, returning for the first time after a 6 year Australian hiatus. Despite his Aussie absence, his reign as the techno trailblazer continues, having recently won the DJ Award for Best Melodic House & Techno Artist 2019. Plex is also billed to play at Pitch, Victoria’s 4 day festival in the Grampians National Park – another one well worth checking out.
